Dinosaur Party

We had a fun (and exhausting) birthday party for Vanya today. We decided to invite all his classmates who have been with him for the last 2 years. There were 19 children total. Overall we had tons of fun. The theme for the party was "Dinosaurs"
Here are some of the things we did:

  • Pin the dinosaur on the T-rex mouth
  • Dinosaur stomp (like a cake walk with dinosaur foot prints) They got little prizes like stuffed dinosaurs, magnifying glasses, digging tools, dinosaur puzzles, etc. - all from the dollar store
  • Volcano eruption! Cameron made an awesome volcano and the kids took turns making it erupt. They each had a cup with baking soda and Cameron had a bottle with vinegar (with red food coloring).
  • Then we went to the park across the street and had a dinosaur egg relay. I made the kids dinosaur feet and gave them a wooden spoon with an egg. They had to go around a marker and come back. Then, they would switch the feet with the next person and so on.
  • Dinosaur dig - There is a sand box in the park, so while we were doing the relay, Cameron buried 3 sets of plastic dinosaur fossils. We gave the kids some brushes and told them to find the bones. They had a blast and found all the bones but one.
  • Dinosaur egg hunt - while they were digging, I went and hid several dino eggs (Easter eggs). When the kids were ready we gave them T-rex masks and told them to go find eggs.

Then we came back to the house for dino dogs (hot dogs) and dino eggs (grapes). After which we had cake of course. It was a lot of fun. Thank goodness a few of the moms stayed for the party to help out with all the kids. We kept them pretty busy the whole time so it went quite smoothly. However, I don't think we'll be doing a party next year...

I was just thinking about you, Vanya, because we had a birthday party for Gabe over the weekend. We miss the days when we could throw a party together. Hope all is well for you and your fam. We miss you.
