Camping at Fuji Five Lakes Area

Friday night we left Tokyo as soon as Cameron came home from work. We went to a place called "Motosu-ko". It took us a couple of hours to leave the city lights behind and enter the mountains. The boys had a ball setting up camp and eating smores by the fire. The weather was a little chilly, but tolerable. Isabel just sat back taking everything in. We went with a few other families so the kids were entertained with the other children also. Saturday morning we went on a hike. We were very close to mount Fuji, but unfortunately because it was overcast, we just saw the outline through the clouds. The hike took a couple of hours going up and the boys made it all the way on their own. It was a total of 8 kilometers (almost 5 miles!) Poor Cameron carried Isa in the backpack all the way. She took a couple of naps along the way. As soon as we were back from the hike we had to rush and pack up to get back to the city for a business dinner at Roppongi Hills (tallest building on the first picture). We went to a restaurant on the 51st floor where we had amazing Japanese steak and an incredible view of the city. Wow!

Fun camping trip. Try as hard as I might--the camping stars never aligned for us. I was sad it never quite worked for us to go. Great pics. And I'm EXTREMELY impressed you still made it back for dinner. When does THAT ever work out?
